What is Hot Yoga?

We are Strathaven’s first and only Hot Yoga studio. Our brand new, purpose-built studio is fully insulated and equipped with infrared technology to keep you sweating for more!

So how hot does it get?

The name says it all. Hot yoga is essentially doing yoga in very hot and humid conditions. Hot yoga can be intense and challenging but it feels so good on your joints.

It’s always sweaty. As you acclimatise to the heat, you'll become more flexible, get stronger, and feel calmer.

Our studio temperature will be set to between 30 and 42 degrees Celsius and minimum 60% humidity for hot classes. This is designed to allow you to melt into your poses, elevate your workout and give you a chance to decompress.

What are the benefits?

Even after a few classes, you will feel more flexible, energised and in tune with your body. Sweating can make your skin clearer and the heat will help with muscle tension.

You will increase strength, stamina, flexibility and overall health helping to relieve stress and find mental clarity and inner calm. The heat adds another dimension to your yoga practice burn extra calories and rehabilitate injuries.

Everyone has their own reasons for yoga, and some unexpected positive benefits.

What should I expect from my first class?

There will be up to 16  people in your class depending on the vibe your instructor wants to have. The environment we have created is a friendly one, so say hello! The doors will open 10-15 minutes before your session is scheduled to start, to allow you to enter the room and decompress before the class starts. Grab yourself a mat hanging on the wall and place yourself in a position on the floor (you’ll see the markings).

You will need to bring a towel, one that will cover the full mat. If you forget, you can rent one from us. You may want to bring an extra towel for comfort as you will sweat a lot. You’ll also want to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during the session, where you will have regular breaks throughout but feel free to have your water when you feel necessary. We will have facilities for you to refill your bottle after your class and we will sell water and juice. At the end of every session, you’ll have a savasana. This is when the physical segment of your session ends, focussing on your mind recovery. This typically last 5-10 minutes at the end of your session. When its time to leave, please spray and wipe down your mat and hang it back up on the wall ready for the next class.

Please make sure you drink plenty of water following your session to rehydrate! Enjoy the post class endorphins, you will feel amazing and have the best sleep.
