Frequently Asked Questions

What is  Hot Yoga?

What do I need to bring? What should I wear??  Am I gonna be cooked alive???

Everything you'll need to know before your first class.

Why is infrared heat the best option for hot yoga?

Infrared heat is ideal for hot yoga because it penetrates the skin, warming the body from within rather than just heating the air, leading to deeper muscle relaxation and enhanced flexibility at lower ambient temperatures. It promotes effective detoxification through increased sweating, improves circulation for better oxygen flow and recovery, and provides pain relief for tension and injuries. Additionally, infrared hearers are energy-efficient, customisable, and make hot yoga more accessible for beginners and sensitive individuals, enhancing the overall experience.

Do you have onsite parking?

Yes we do and it's free! We're centrally located in Strathaven, so we're walking distance from the centre of town too.

Do you have water available?

We will have free tap water available (fountain coming soon!) We also have  water and juices available for purchase. You’ll be pleased to know that we do not sell single-use plastic, so all of our retail stock will be glass or cans to help avoid plastic waste.

What should I wear?

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. I would recommend yoga pants or shorts; bra top and or t-shirt. In general its better to wear something that is light and quick drying such as lyrca.

What should I expect in my first hot yoga class?

There will be up to 18 people in your class.  The environment we have created is a friendly one, so say hello! The doors will open 10-15 minutes before your session is scheduled to start, to allow you to enter the room and decompress before the class starts. Grab yourself a mat hanging on the wall and place yourself in a position on the floor. You will need to bring a towel, one that will cover the full mat. You may want to bring an extra towel for comfort as you will sweat a lot. You’ll also want to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during the session, where you will have regular breaks throughout but feel free to have your water when you feel necessary. We will have facilities for you to refill your bottle after your class and we will sell water and juice. At the end of every session, you’ll have a shavasana which we strongly urge you to stay. This is when the physical segment of your session ends, focussing on your mind recovery. This typically last 5-10 minutes at the end of your session. When its time to leave, please spray and wipe down your mat and hang it back up on the wall ready for the next class.

Please make sure you drink plenty of water following your session to rehydrate! Enjoy the post class endorphins, you will feel amazing and have the best sleep.

What temperature will the room be?

The temperature of our hot yoga classes will be between 30 and 42 degrees for our hot classes and minimum 60% humidity. Exercising in the heat helps with rehabilitation, allows you to get deeper into your stretches.

What are the health benefits of hot yoga?

The heat helps with your cardiovascular fitness helping you to burn more calories giving you a fantastic workout. The positions are always adaptable, allowing you to go at your pace. The warmth of the room feels fantastic on your skin helping increase your flexibility; helps your joints and muscles and prevent injuries.

Can I do Hot Yoga while pregnant?

While many women can continue exercising during pregnancy, hot yoga may not be advisable for everyone. It’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional before participating. Some potential concerns include the risk of overheating, dehydration and reduced blood flow to the baby due to elevated body temperatures.  If you’re an experienced practitioner, and have your doctor’s approval, consider adapting your practice. Always listen to your body and prioritise your safety and comfort.

There are other yoga (non-hot yoga) classes run locally, so we would recommend trying those and then come back after the baby is born.

Can children attend hot yoga?

We do not allow under 16s for our sessions. Those children that are interested in yoga, there are other yoga studios locally that offer child-friendly classes.

Do I need to be flexible to do hot yoga?

Yoga helps with increasing your flexibility, so you do not need to be flexible before you come.

What time should I arrive?

You should arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of your class. The doors are locked after the class starts, so we are not able to let anyone in after the class has begun. Try not to arrive more than 15 minutes before the start of the class time as there may still be people leaving from a previous class, plus our teachers will be getting the studio ready to welcome you.

I’m a beginner, will the hot classes be suitable for me?

All of our classes are suitable for beginners. Just let the teacher know this will be your first lesson and take it at your own pace. If you are unsure, our beginner-specific classes are slightly cooler at 32 degrees to help ease you in.

Do you have showers?

We do not have showers on site currently but watch this space for 2026, we have exciting plans for an outdoor wellness space.

What should I eat before a hot yoga class?

What happens if I find the heat overwhelming?

When you're new to hot yoga, the heat might feel intense at times. It's perfectly fine to take a seat on your mat whenever you need to. We suggest arriving 10 minutes before your session to get used to the room. Don't worry, it gets easier with time!

What do I need to bring to the class?

You will need to bring water and a towel to cover your mat and maybe an extra one to dry off if you need. We rent and sell towels and refreshments if you forget.

Do you provide mats?

We provide complimentary mats, so you don’t need to bring your own. You are also welcome to bring your own mat if you wish.

Do you offer packages and memberships?

We have membership options available. Click 'Book Now' which will take you to our TeamUp website. There is also information available on the 'Memberships' tab on our website.

Which classes are suitable for beginners?

All of them! Your goal as you start is to get used to the heat and submerge yourself in the moment whilst attempting the postures. If the heat gets too much, sit down on your mat until you’re ready to go again. Take it easy for your first few classes and be kind to yourself, it will come. After 3-4 classes, you will acclimatise to the heat and you’ll be able to push yourself harder. We also have warm yoga classes which are lower in temperature (around 30 degrees), if you are unsure of how the heat will feel but there is nothing stopping you going straight in.

Is hot yoga suitable for women during menopause?

I get asked this question regularly but more specifically the question is:  ‘Is hot yoga suitable for women of a ‘certain age?’

Hot yoga is for everyone and can be safe and beneficial for many menopausal women, but individual experiences may vary. The heat can alleviate some of the menopausal symptoms such as muscle stiffness and stress, while promoting relaxation and improving flexibility. The practice can also enhance mood and boost overall well-being through endorphin release and mindfulness.

It is important to approach hot yoga with caution. Some woman may experience increased hot flashes or discomfort in a heated environment. Staying well-hydrated and listening to your body is crucial. Consulting with your doctor is advisable, especially if you have any specific health concerns or conditions relating to menopause. Overall hot yoga can be a positive addition to a menopausal women’s wellness routine.
